NTIA Gets Nervous About Growing Popularity Of Operations In License-exempt 5 GHz Band

In an EE Times Article (http://www.commsdesign.com/story/OEG20020621S0062), Patrick Mannion writes about the NTIA considering a petition to the FCC to severely restrict systems operating license-exempt in the 5 GHz band.

Ostensibly, the NTIA is concerned for services such as RADAR... which seems a bit of a stretch considering that RADAR systems typically emit hundreds of watts of transmit power (boats) and thousands (KW) or perhaps millions (MW) of watts in the case of government and defense RADAR systems.

If the petition goes forward, this will end shape up to be QUITE the fight!
